Anti-Transpirants

Throughout the year, evergreen trees and shrubs, whether they have needles or leaves, lose moisture to the air through a process called transpiration. Even during the winter, when exposed to drying winds and mild sunny days, evergreens continue to lose water to the atmosphere. Furthermore, as the soil freezes, evergreens are unable to draw up essential water to replace that which is lost; thus, the foliage begins to forfeit stored moisture.

This eventually leads to severe damage to the plant, which is not usually noticed until the following spring. Long after winter is over, damaged foliage then begins to turn brown, contrasting with the living green foliage. Many times, plants are not able to overcome that damage and don’t survive.

Anti-transpirants are products capable of reducing the transpiration rate when applied to plant foliage. They form a protective film on the foliage and create a thin barrier over the leaf’s pores that lessen moisture loss. When applied according to directions, the product dries to form a clear, colorless, flexible, glossy film that will not interfere with plant growth or affect any plant functions.

We provide anti-transpirant treatments for your evergreen trees and shrubs in order to help them handle the difficult winter conditions and prevent winter injury and damage.
